Espionage
Unseen for 40 years and one of the most sought after productions from Michael Powell's body of work, these three plays directed for 'Espionage' showcase his short foray into TV in the mid-60s.
The three gripping stories feature the Oscar-nominated director's exploration of WWII sabotage, the Cold War and a more lighthearted take on the war between Britain and America, the latter starring Roger Livesey, who starred in Powell's 'A Matter of Life and Death', and 'The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp'.
Plays include:
1. The Frantic Rebel (starring Roger Livesey and Stanley Baxter)
2. Never Turn Your Back on a Friend (starring Mark Eden and Julian Glover)
3. A Free Agent (starring Anthony Quayle and Sian Phillips)
PLEASE NOTE: This is an anthology series. All stories are classed as separate, self-contained plays, and there are no linking characters or situations (or even time periods). There are 24 x 50 min episodes in total for this series, although Powell only directed three of them.
